I Failed a Driving Test

How embarrassing! My mom told me the other day that I've been summoned for jury duty back home. They said I need to fax my drivers license or an electric bill over to prove that I live in Hawaii. I've also wanted to get my DL changed because you can get some major discounts at restaurants and hotels if you can prove you're a local. Anyways.... I go in today, confident with my 10 years of driving experience. I remembered how easy my test was when I took it when I was 16. And let me note that this was only the written test- not the driving one.

Some of the questions were just plain ridiculous. There is no way I could have gotten them right unless I had a lucky guess or I had actually read the manual. But who does that? I'm going to list 3 of the questions to see if you could have gotten them right(NO CHEATING!):

1. How many days after you get a name change do you have to notify the Hawaii Council of Drivers(or something like that)?
a. 10
b. 20
c. 30
d. 60

2. When making a turn, how many ft before the turn do you need to have your blinker on?
a. 25
b. 50
c. 75
d. 100

3. (see sign above) What does this sign stand for?
a. school
b. school crossing
c. pedestrians
d. crosswalk

Oh - and some of the others I was just laughing at. One of them was something like: What do you do when you have a green light, but there are pedestrians crossing on their red?
(I don't remember all the options)
a) stop and wait until the pedestrians have crossed safely
b) get as close to the pedestrians as possible to scare them away from crossing illegally again
c) continue through the intersection - since you are the one with the green light

Fuel Your Photography

My brother in law Thayne and I are co-editors of this new photography site that just launched this week. If you are in to photography, check it out for tips, interviews, and inspiration. You won't be disappointed. Our first day the site was up, we had 2,273 hits! Amazing!

And for all of you first time DSLR owners out there, be sure to read this article, written by yours truly.

I know some of you are wondering if we did the design and everything on our own. The answer is no. Our website is just a part of the Fuel Brand Network. There are others for creativity, writing, branding, coding, illustration, and others. But we are part of a team that consists of creative designers, technical experts, writers, etc. It should be a very fun project to be a part of!

Luau

I'm a little late on this one, but last weekend we attended our first luau - well actually our first 2 luaus! Friday's was a HS graduation party for a kid we go to church with. In Hawaii, a child's 1st birthday and their high school graduation are both BIG DEALS. We're talking HUNDREDS of people. The one we went to had between 300-400. Anyways, it was pretty fun. The entertainment was just a slideshow of the guy growing up.

Saturdays was awesome! It was for our ward. They had the same food as the previous night, but the entertainment was amazing. Here's the proof:

If you can't tell, the fire dancers were my favorite! And this last picture is the family that has adopted us. They have fed us dinner more times than we have eaten at our house by ourselves. They are wonderful! She's also my hula dance instructor. Aren't they beautiful!?

Porky

Last week we witnessed the killing, shaving, dehoofing, gutting, chopping, and cooking of this pig. And then we participated in eating him. Sorry Kristi if you read this, but trust me, I kept it PG. I have some terribly disgusting pictures of the gutting part. Eccggck. So gross. And as you can see, this guy is not a small fella. In fact, he weighed over 600 lbs. Crazy.

Better Together

Spencer got home this past weekend! Forgive me if I don't blog a lot this month, but this will be all we have together before he's gone again. Just wanted to tell you guys about my fun surprise I planned for him after I picked him up. I've mentioned on here about the friends that we've made - the ones that basically adopted us, fed us, helped me move in, etc. etc. etc. Well I didn't mention the fact that they own this ridiculously NICE penthouse in downtown Honolulu....and, you guessed it, they let us stay there this weekend. He also offered to let me drive his Porsche to pick him up, but I respectfully declined. I think I might have a heart attack driving a car that nice when I don't even know how to drive it that well. Anyways, so I picked Spencer up from the airport and told him we were going out to dinner. Instead, I made our own dinner, and brought him here:

I would say it was like another honeymoon, but I wouldn't want people like Megan to think too much about that :)

We are so happy to be together again. He's taking a couple weeks off work so we can go around the island and have a little fun. We have an exciting Ward Conference coming up this weekend....one word....LUAU!

I Made It

Photobucket

Thank you for all of those who were concerned about me while I ventured on my own on this tiny island by myself. The past month without Spencer was good preparation for me for when he is gone for 6 months. While he was gone, I was able to get our house organized(almost), take plenty of trips to the beach, work at a temp job, take some pictures, hula lessons, watch my tv shows, work out, and hang out with friends. I've also been working on a new website that I will be co-editor of with my brother in law, Thayne. More to come about that soon - it will be very exciting!

Spencer gets back Saturday! I don't think I could be any more excited about it! I've only seen him for 1 week in the last 2 months.
