For Those of You Who Want to Be a Better Person

Last night after enjoying a nice dinner and a movie with our friend Christopher, the Christian household got a little...well...emotional. It started out with many laughs while watching "Hitch"- Christopher had never seen it before. After the movie was over, we happened to turn on the ESPY Awards just in time for the Arthur Ashe award. If you have never seen the ESPY's, the Arthur Ashe Award goes to someone who has shown courage, dealing with not only sports, but with life in general. This years' went to two girls in Afghanistan that helped start up a girls soccer program during the Taliban era, where pretty much anything a girl did was prohibited. It was so cool to see them get up in front of everyone with their thank you speech, in English.

Seeing that reminded Spencer of an old Arthur Ashe Award speech back in 1993 given by Jim Valvano. I would recommend everyone to take 12 minutes of their time to watch it. If you can, have a couple tissues on hand.

(I couldn't get this video to work, so you'll just have to click on the link)

Not only were we moved by this inspirational speech, but over on our TV - still the ESPY's - the greatest moment award came on.

I'm sure many of you have already seen this video clip, but it gets me every time. Hands down, this was the greatest moment in sports, not only from this past year, but in a very very long time. His name is Jason McElwain, and this is his story:

(video on next post)

I will admit that a couple of tears were shed on our part, but we both ended our day wanting to be better people. The great thing about these videos is that it doesn't only pertain to sports fans - but to everyone- on a much higher level. Hope you enjoy.....
